EUROPEAN CITIZEN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD

European insured citizens moving from one member State to another for a temporary stay, holders of a European Health Insurance Card (ESA) or Temporary Replacement Certificate (PDA), in accordance with Articles 19 (1) and 27 (1) thereof Basic Regulation (EC) No. 883/2004 and Article 25.A.1 of Implementing Regulation (EC) No. 987/2009 are entitled to receive medically necessary health benefits in the Member State of residence, taking into account the nature of these benefits and the duration of stay, in accordance with the applicable law of the Member State of residence as if they were insured under it.

  • The card does not cover any costs in case of traveling specifically to receive medical care.
  • It does not guarantee every kind of free service or health benefit, as each country’s healthcare systems differ and services provided free of charge in one Member country may not be provided free of charge in another.
